It is difficult to comprehend that we have ‘all but’ completed another school year. The last term has flown by, full of activities, events and classroom learning. At the end of each year we farewell our Year 7 class. Last night at their Graduation Mass and Dinner they were referred to as bright, confident, hard working, respectful and a friendly group of young adults. We commemorated the journey that they had travelled some for 8 years here at Good Counsel Primary School. They, just like our new Preps who will begin next year, started with tentative steps, but have grown into our leaders for 2013. Next year holds new challenges for each of them as they begin the next stage of their educational journey. We all wish them well and God’s guidance.
Next year we have minimal staff class moves. As mentioned last week, we are funding 14 classes in 2014 to provide the best possible class groupings with the numbers that we have.
Mrs Rosanne Mifsud will be on maternity leave in 2014 and we thank her for all that she has done in Year 23WM each Thursday and Friday. Mrs Giovanna Starkey returns in a part time capacity after being away for most of 2013. Next year we have budgeted for several student learning initiatives - Mrs Hurney will be working an additional day in Learning Support. Miss Bowie will continue with her extra day providing coaching and classes.

At our special Monday Assembly, our Student Leadership positions for 2014 were announced. Next year will be a little different from past years with leaders from both Year 6 and Year 7.
As at the end of 2014, both class groups will graduate and move to secondary education. During the assembly our current Captains and Student Council handed over symbols of flags, candles and the School Mission Statement to the new leaders of 2014. Thankyou again to our 2013 leaders who have been wonderful role models and a fantastic group with which to work.

Congratulations to all our Year 5 & 6 students on the positive way they participated in our Leadership Days. Our school community is in good hands.
This week we will be busy with the various ceremonies, Christmas Concert 6.30pm Thursday and end of year Mass 9.00am Friday.
I take this opportunity to thank the fantastic staff here at Good Counsel who work tirelessly to provide the best possible education for your children. Both teachers and school support staff who work behind the scenes each day and go about their work in such a positive way. Thankyou for the work you all do. Thankyou Father Kerry for his guiding presence in our Liturgical celebrations.
As we enter the Advent season, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas and attempt to take our family to one of the many religious ceremonies at Christmas. Far too much of Christmas is over shadowed by materialism and media advertising. This year, let us make an effort to attend one of the Christmas celebrations.
